Rik Douglas Jeffery began their professional career as John Gibson’s legal assistant while attending Santa Monica College. Rik worked for John over nine years while earning a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California Berkeley and J.D. from the University of California Irvine School of Law.

While attending law school, Rik concentrated on bankruptcy, consumer law, and banking law with Professor (Former Congresswoman) Katie Porter. In their third-year clinic, they successfully briefed and argued a case before the 9th Circuit.

After law school, Rik leveraged their regulatory experiences from their work with John to become lead regulatory attorney at Wykowski Law, founded by noted former federal prosecutor Henry G. Wykowski. Rik’s practice focused on compliance, and commercial transactions, and M&A, including acting as lead regulatory counsel on the $50 million roll up of over twenty licensed California cannabis businesses, and acting as outside regulatory and commercial counsel to some of the largest cannabis retailers, manufacturers, and distributors in the United States.

Rik is now a managing and founding partner of Gibson & Jeffery, LLP. Rik brings a wealth of compliance and dispute resolution experience concerning local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to Gibson & Jeffery, LLP. Additionally, Rik also brings their previous experiences in litigation (including federal tax litigation), M&A, and commercial drafting, and negotiation. Rik specializes in alcoholic- beverage brand start ups, transactions involving regulated and distressed assets, and in representing clients before administrative agencies and tribunals.

In their free time Rik enjoys singing in the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and playing piano. Rik is also an avid amateur chef.
